The IBMS has developed non-standard routes for practitioners of biomedical science who for a variety of reasons are not able to apply for Institute membership via standard routes. See how you can become a Fellow via the non-standard route.
Fellow is the highest corporate class of Institute membership and applicants to the class of Fellow will be required to have a minimum of three years professional experience as a Member and hold an Institute Higher Specialist Diploma or Diploma of Higher Specialist Practice.
Fellows are eligible to sit the Institute's advanced specialist diplomas in order to evidence practice at the level of a consultant biomedical scientist.
Fellow members are entitled to use the designatory letter FIBMS.
Chartered Scientist
Members and Fellows who hold an MSc or an equivalent Institute approved M-level qualification, have at least four years postgraduate professional experience as a corporate Institute member and are able to demonstrate on-going CPD activities over a minimum period of two years, are eligible to apply to the Institute for Chartered Scientist status.
