Quality assurance in pathology
This month's key update was the publication of reports by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) and Royal College of Pathologists on Sherwood Forest Hospitals. The College, along with IBMS representative Paul Williams, were asked by CQC to investigate issues around breast cancer test results. Both reports raised important questions about workload and quality and the IBMS will publish a detailed response to the recommendations in due course.
The national review on quality assurance in pathology has released a survey to find out more about quality activity and quality training in pathology services. The IBMS is closely involved with this review and I encourage all biomedical scientists to complete the survey to ensure that your expertise and knowledge is heard and informs this important work.
Best wishes,
Derek Bishop, IBMS President
A national review commissioned by NHS England Medical Director, Professor Sir Bruce Keogh is currently underway, looking at quality assurance in pathology. Please complete the review's survey to ensure that our voice and knowledge is heard for this key work.

A bumper month on IBMS Facebook saw popular posts on the horrors of mouth pipetting; the body's anti-HIV 'training manual'; blood wastage and ways to improve management of test results. But what really stole the show was this photo of a young girl learning about biomedical science.
