SQMDG Annual Report 09

Scottish Quality Managers Discussion Group Meeting: Annual Report

Now in our 6th year since the group formed I’m pleased to report another successful year with the group continuing to consolidate the number of participating delegates.

At our May event in Perth over 50 attended the discussion event, and 62 attended last week’s November event in Glasgow.

A small presentation was made to one of the founder members of the group, Ann Lockhart, who retired last month and we wish her good health and happiness with her new found 'quality time' which she hopes to spend sailing. A nautical framed picture of the founder members at our very first meeting seemed entirely appropriate.

Titles presented this year were:

  • Training / Competence (Sarah Smith) at May event
  • Lean a Step Further (Terry Coaker)
  • Case Studies (Eric Martindale)
  • CPA/ UKAS Changes (Ken Rae)
  • Pro’s and Con’s of Electronic Order Comms (Dominic Dunn)
  • HPC Issues (Blair France)
  • Final Fate Traceability for Blood & Blood Components (Presented by Lorna Macfarlane, Caledonian University student)

These presentations will be available on the IBMS website once authorised by owners.

Quality Award Scheme winners for 2009:

  • Charles Houston, (Full member category) Biochemistry, Inverclyde Royal Hospital Abbott Precision Pro Glucose Meter
  • Lorna Macfarlane (Student member category)

All participants of merit gain 5 CPD credits. Details of the scheme are on the IBMS website (Scottish region, SQMDG).

Improvement / Innovations:

  • IBMS have approved our choice of logo which will appear on official letter headings alongside the IBMS logo.
  • A prize draw of books on quality was included this year at the November event.

There were a few personnel changes to the committee due to pressures of work but with good nominations for deputies the numbers hence the workload has remained constant. My thanks, as always, go to these committee members and to IBMS Scotland for its continued support.
