Synopsis

Firstly exploring the basics of immunity to coronaviruses,  then focusing on the innate, humoral and T lymphocyte responses to SARS-CoV-2. The talk will also consider the impact of pre-existing coronavirus immunity, how the immune response may contribute to the broad spectrum of COVID severity as well as examining the current evidence of vaccine-induced immune responses.

Biography 

Dr Adrian Heaps is a Consultant Clinical Scientist in Immunology based at the Department of Virology and Immunology at the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle. He is the clinical lead for the Immunology services in North Cumbria and the Tees regions.  Prior to embarking on a career in the NHS, Adrian studied the Immune responses to viral infections whilst completing his PhD at Imperial College.
