Using our past to develop our future

Using our past to develop our future
22 May 2023
Our Annual Report 2022 ‘Using our past to develop our future’ looks at the progress we made in the first year of the Council’s ambitious five-year strategy.

The IBMS has published our Annual Report 2022, reflecting on the support we are providing our members and the ways we are using our channels to raise awareness of biomedical science.

Using our past to develop our future highlights the launch of a strategic research group to commission studies that demonstrate the value of biomedical science at a time when our workforce is feeling the pressure of the NHS backlog and the cost-of-living crisis.

The report focuses on how we have continued to build on the increased recognition of the skills and expertise of biomedical scientists to make sure the profession is supported by the UK’s governments across the four nations. It also outlines how we have responded to calls for evidence and consultations and work more closely with sister organisations on common policy issues, issuing joint statements with the Royal College of Pathologists and the Association for Clinical Biochemistry and Laboratory Medicine.

Other highlights include:

  • Launch of the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Working Group

  • Support of Ukrainian Biomedical Scientists

  • 100 years of women in the IBMS

  • Flying the flag for Biomedical Science Day

  • Opening access to the British Journal of Biomedical Science
