Mary Macdonald Prize

About Mary Macdonald 

The Mary Macdonald Prize for Achievement and Bursary were established in memory of former IBMS Council member Mary Macdonald.

Mary is remembered as an outstanding professional, colleague and mentor, who began her career as a laboratory support worker and was keen to encourage and recognise excellence in others working in similar roles through this award. Mary made a significant contribution to the Institute throughout her life, serving as an IBMS Council member and on a number of IBMS Committees.


Mary Macdonald Prize for Achievement

The Mary Macdonald Prize for Achievement is awarded annually to the best candidate completing the IBMS Certificate of Achievement Part II. 

The prize of £100 and a certificate will be presented at the IBMS Annual General Meeting (AGM) or local IBMS event.  


How to Apply

The IBMS Mary Macdonald Prize for Achievement celebrates IBMS members who have completed the IBMS Certificate of Achievement Part II.

To apply for the IBMS Mary Macdonald Prize for Achievement you will need to provide:

  • a recommendation from your laboratory manager
  • a statement reflecting on how completing the IBMS Certificate of Achievement Part II has helped advance your career.

Send your statement and your laboratory manager's recommendation to supportstaff@ibms.org

Deadline is 3 months after you have been awarded the IBMS Certificate of Achievement Part II.

The IBMS Mary Macdonald Prize for Achievement was established in 2014 to reflect former IBMS Council member Mary Macdonald's passion for education and desire to support those starting their career in biomedical science.
