Biosafety practitioner Level 1 (ISTR Accredited) June

This course gives the delegate a systematic review of the roles and responsibilities of a Biological Safety Officer including legal aspects with which they will need to be familiar with in order to undertake the position of a Biosafety Practitioner and to register with the ISTR.

Each lecture is between 30-60 minutes long. Practical work will involve carrying out a laboratory inspection, Good Microbiological Working Practices and fit for purpose in a laboratory, how to work safely in Microbiological Safety Cabinets, Code of Practice and laboratory design, and how to carry out risk assessments. These will be carried out over several 2 hour long sessions. The course will also include a two hour practical session on accident scenarios. The delegates will also undertake one half hour written open book assessment and one hour closed book assessment used to assess understanding and knowledge gained over the 5 day course. The delegates will also prepare and present a short talk using skills and knowledge learned during the course to assess their understanding and abilities to give a persuasive argument.
