Biosafety practitioner Level 1(ISTR Accredited)- Jan 2018

The Public Health England's Novel and Dangerous Pathogen training group has been accredited by the Institute of Safety in Technology and Research (ISTR) to deliver all the modules of the Level 1 Biosafety Practitioner training course. This curriculum has been designed by the ISTR to provide entry level training for Biological safety practitioners in a broad range of subjects.

Each lecture is between 30-60 minutes long. Practical work will involve carrying out a laboratory inspection, Good Microbiological Working Practices especially when working in Microbiological Safety Cabinets, accident scenarios and accident investigation. These will be carried out over several 2 hour long sessions. The delegates will also undertake two half hour written closed book assessments used to assess understanding and knowledge

gained over the 5 day course. The delegates will also prepare and present a short talk using skills and knowledge learned during the course to assess their understanding and abilities to give a persuasive argument
