IDENTIFICATION OF PATHOGENIC FUNGI, BRISTOL

THE COURSE IS DESIGNED FOR BEGINNERS AND THOSE WITH SOME EXPERIENCE IN THE IDENTIFICATION OF MEDICALLY IMPORTANT FUNGI. THE FIRST HALF-DAY WILL CONCENTRATE ON YEAST IDENTIFICATION, THE REMAINDER OF THE COURSE WILL FOCUS ON DERMATOPHYTES AND OTHER MOULDS ENCOUNTERED IN HOSPITAL MICROBIOLOGY LABORATORIES. IT WILL INCLUDE A NUMBER OF SPECIES FEATURED IN EXTERNAL QUALITY ASSESSMENT SCHEMES

AT THE END OF THE COURSE, PARTICIPANTS SHOULD BE ABLE TO IDENTIFY THE MORE COMMON MEDICALLY IMPORTANT FUNGI. THEY WILL ALSO GAIN EXPERIENCE IN IDENTIFYING YEASTS AND MOULDS THAT ARE RARER CAUSES OF INFECTION, AS WELL AS FUNGI THAT HAVE BEEN FEATURED IN THE EXTERNAL QUALITY CONTROL SCHEME.
