The outcome is the Public have an understanding of what the laboratory medicine does and how it plays its role in pathology and in diagnosis of disease and the provision of healthcare.

Each staff member taking part would like to add this to their CPD as taking part in creating the information to display to the public and talking to them and answering question on the subject.

Hello

At Sheffield Teaching Hospital.

We, Laboratory medicine are currently organising an event.

Each department within Laboratory medicine are putting together information to celebrate what the Laboratory does/pathology and provide information on a level aimed towards the public to inform them of what role the laboratory medicine department plays in diagnosis of disease and the provision of healthcare.

What we are doing-

Between the 5th-9th of November we are putting together displays/stalls to go in the main foyer across two sites: Northern General Hospital (NGH) and Royal Hallamshire hospital (RHH).

On each stall there will be:

  • Information specific to what laboratory medicine does
  • A general Pathology board outlining what pathology is as a whole
  • A bit about the different types of staff involved in laboratory medicine and some information in how to apply and what qualifications are needed for the roles

Each day we are also focusing on a specific discipline and shall have information and to a degree some small interactive items the public can touch/hold/look at. Some of the information will be generic such as what that discipline in pathology does. Some will be more informational about the specifics of testing. i.e. Chemistry will be describing how we test Creatinine and how that helps a patient.

Below is the timetable for the specific disciplines:
