CPD star Hayley wins Cyril Sanders Memorial Award
15 July 2019
IBMS Associate Hayley Pincott wins the Cyril Sanders Memorial Award for her exemplary CPD

This year’s winner of the Cyril Sanders Memorial Award is Hayley Pincott, a medical laboratory assistant (MLA) in the Oral Pathology department at University Dental Hospital in Wales.

This award is granted for the best CPD review return by an IBMS member at Registered Science Technician (RSciTech) level, and will be presented to Hayley at IBMS Congress in September.

Hayley shared her experience:

“To be honest I wasn’t very confident about my CPD and always questioned whether the content was enough, but after my CPD review I had some amazing feedback and I was told that I would be put forward for the Cyril Sanders Memorial Award.
I was absolutely shocked to hear that I had won the award. Slightly overwhelmed as well, it’s quite humbling to be recognised for something, especially as I wasn’t expecting it.
I get a certificate and £100, this is going to be put to good use. I’ve been to my son’s school a few times to carry out workshops and they have a hearing impaired resource base (HIRB). Working with these children has really made me want to do a sign language course so I can try to be a bit more inclusive with the events I do and the money will help me to do this.
It’s great to have awards that recognise the work and efforts of support staff, but then to win it is a lovely bonus. So a big huge thank you!”

Some of the judges shared their comments on Hayley’s CPD review:

"Covers all 5 categories and highlights excellent public engagement"

"Hayley has looked back on activities undertaken in order to plan ahead. Indicates a strong portfolio approach to learning"

Christian, Burt, Professional Services Manager at the IBMS, said:

“I’m delighted that Mrs Pincott has become the first recipient of the revised Cyril Sanders Memorial Award. Hayley fully engaged with myself during the Science Council CPD review process and undertook CPD across all of the 5 required activity categories.
The submission included excellent examples of public engagement and Hayley demonstrated an ability to reflect upon the CPD undertaken. This will help Hayley focus on future plans and indicated a portfolio approach to learning."

Hayley’s colleague, Sue Wozniak, said,

"Hayley is the associate practitioner within the Oral pathology laboratory (University Dental Hospital Cardiff ) and the Cyril Sanders Memorial Award is extremely well deserved. Passionate about promoting the biomedical sciences, Hayley has undertaken considerable CPD and has recently been awarded the accolade of ‘IBMS Champion’ for the Welsh region.
Hayley has worked hard to achieve registration with the Science Council and the Cyril Sanders Memorial Award is further recognition of her commitment to her career and CPD."

On behalf of the IBMS, we congratulate Hayley on winning this prestigious award.
