4 August 2017
The Standards Unit has reissued a UK SMI

Following comments received during the consultation process, Public Health England (PHE) has reissued the guidance UK SMI V 5: Screening for hepatitis C infection.

This UK Standards for Microbiology Investigations (UK SMI) guidance was previously named UK SMI V 5: Investigation of hepatitis C infection by antibody testing or combined antigen/antibody assay.

The document now includes background information on the hepatitis C virus, as well as sections on technical limitations, safety considerations, public health management, comments and updated references.

A review of the users’ comments received by the Working group for microbiology standards in clinical virology/serology can be seen online.

Should you have any questions, contact the Standards Unit.
