HCPC COVID-19 temporary register

HCPC COVID-19 temporary register
19 March 2020
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the HCPC is working with the UK Government to create a COVID-19 temporary register

Subject to appropriate legislation being passed, granting powers on the HCPC to do so, the HCPC have released the following statement about setting up a temporary register for former registrants who have de-registered within the last three years and final year students on UK approved programmes who have completed all their clinical practice placements:

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the HCPC is working with the UK Government on the possibility of creating a COVID-19 temporary register of two parts

Our intention would be to ensure there are no regulatory barriers to the following two groups practising on a temporary basis:

  • Former registrants who have de-registered within the last three years.
  • Final year students, on UK approved programmes, who have completed all their clinical practice placements.

We are actively engaged in discussions with the Government, other UK healthcare regulators, NHS representatives across the four countries, the Council of Deans of Health and others, to ensure our approach facilitates the NHS in recruiting the workforce it requires at this time.

Once any emergency legislation has been passed, we will be contacting these groups with more detailed information about HCPC’s potential approach.

You can find further information about how we are regulating at this time at www.hcpc-uk.org/covid-19/
