Celebrating Healthcare Science Week 2021

Healthcare Science Week 2021 is taking place the 5th to the 14th of March. 

Every year, Healthcare Science Week shines a light on the incredible work of biomedical scientists working in healthcare to local communities, other healthcare professionals, and students. Since public engagement activities look a bit different this year, we've gathered the below resources to help you celebrate the week!

Share your experience as a biomedical scientist in healthcare

Shoot a short 30 second video sharing your experience working in healthcare and send it to us at communications@ibms.org. We'll be collecting videos throughout the week and sharing them on our social media.

Here are some ideas for what you can share: a quick introduction to what you do, your experience working during the pandemic, the most interesting thing about your job, advice you would give to students wanting to go into biomedical science. 

Are you a Trainee? The National School of Healthcare Science is encouraging trainees to record a short 5-10 minute video of themselves talking about what they do as healthcare scientists. Visit their page for more information.

Get "tested" at a virtual healthcare science pub quiz 

The team at Great Ormond Street Hospital is putting on a Pub-Less Healthcare Science Pub Quiz! Join professional silly science person Steve Cross for a special quiz full of jokes and nonsense, just for the Healthcare Science community.

Sign up as a healthcare science ambassador

Join around 400 other healthcare science staff across the country who are signed up as NHS healthcare science ambassadors. This program is run by STEMNET, and anyone aged 17+ working in STEM is welcome to apply, students welcome!

Get the kids engaged with healthcare science

• Join Great Ormond Street Hospital for a children's puppet show about Socks, Science, Superbugs and Making Friends -  narrated by Stephanie Houtman (Peppa Pig Live) on Friday 12 March. Click here for more information and to book a ticket.
• Check out IBMS's SUPERLAB comic - designed for Key Stage 2 (7-11 year olds). The comic features all sorts of fun activities designed to inform young people about the science at the heart of healthcare.
• We also have Activity Sheets to download, featuring fun and educational experiments that can be used at home or in school.
