IBMS Head of Education Alan Wainwright has been elected to IFBLS Board of Directors

At the IFBLS 32nd World Congress meeting, IBMS Executive Head of Education Alan Wainwright was elected to the Board of directors at the International Federation of Biomedical Laboratory Science (IFBLS).

Alan CSci FIBMS, is a Chartered Scientist and Fellow of the IBMS. An international representative, Alan now takes on greater responsibility as a member of the Board of Directors. Elected by the Chief Delegates of 38 countries, Alan joins fellow board members from USA, Italy, Japan, Norway, the Philippines and Sweden.

Alan recently presented a talk in Japan at the 32nd World Congress of Biomedical Laboratory Science. His talk was entitled ‘Options for Delivering Biomedical Scientist Education and Training’. He is excited for his new role to begin and is looking forward to working with his committee to help develop a strategy for the future work of the IFBLS. He expects his committee to be tasked with making recommendations to improve student engagement and identify how IFBLS can best respond to issues raised by the profession in Africa.

Alan said, ‘I want to use my experience to the benefit of IFBLS and in return be in a better position to advise on the Institute’s own international strategy.  I already know that across the world our profession faces similar issues around recognition and the IFBLS, like the IBMS, is committed to raising the profile of those who work in biomedical science laboratories’.

As a member of the IFBLS Board of Directors, Alan will have a great opportunity to meet with other international delegates.  He feels that his experience of working at the IBMS for the last 16 years and in particular the insights gained through accreditation of biomedical science degrees in a number of countries will prove especially helpful in working with international professional bodies.

We congratulate Alan on this great achievement.
