IBMS Members Honoured at Science Council Celebration of Science Event
Three IBMS members, Katy Johnson, Matthew Smith, and Emma Victory, were celebrated at the Science Council’s CPD Awards for their exceptional commitment to continuing professional development.
On November 26th, the Science Council hosted its annual Celebration of Science event at the Geological Society of London, recognising the achievements of registrants, volunteers, and apprentices from across the science community.
Among the highlights of the event were the CPD Awards, celebrating those who demonstrate exceptional commitment to continuing professional development (CPD).
The IBMS was proud to see three of its members recognised at the event:
- Katy Johnson (RSciTech)
- Matthew Smith (CSci)
- Emma Victory (CSci)
Emma Victory Shares Her Experience
Senior Biomedical Scientist and educator Emma Victory was thrilled to be named a CPD Award winner. Reflecting on her achievement, she said:
It is an honour to be considered for a CPD award. I’ve always loved learning, and I see professional development like a jigsaw puzzle – you gradually add more pieces, which reveals a picture of who you are as a person and practitioner.
Emma has over 20 years of experience in infection sciences and works at the Hospital for Tropical Diseases, where she specialises in parasitology and teaching. Alongside her role, she is currently studying for a PGCE at UCL to develop her skills in training and assessment.
When asked for her advice on CPD, Emma shared:
The game changer for me was switching all things CPD to one notebook. Everything you do is CPD, so all you need to do is note the date, activity, and your thoughts as you go, and you’ll have no problem extracting a record for audit purposes.
Celebrating Excellence in Biomedical Science
IBMS Professional Support Services Manager Christian Burt commented on the event:
We are delighted to see our members’ achievements recognised by the Science Council. Katy, Matthew, and Emma have demonstrated outstanding dedication to their professional development, and their work highlights the vital role of CPD in advancing healthcare science. On behalf of the IBMS, I’d like to extend our congratulations to them for their well-deserved awards.
The IBMS is proud of its members’ contributions to the profession and is committed to supporting ongoing professional development across the biomedical science community.
