IBMS welcomes HCPC fee proposal decision

IBMS welcomes HCPC fee proposal decision
13 February 2020
The IBMS welcomes the decision by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) regarding fee proposals for biomedical scientists and graduate applicants

Following a HCPC fee consultation in 2018, the IBMS wrote to voice their concerns about the proposed renewal fee increase to registered Biomedical Scientists and graduate applicants. Whilst we agreed that an increase was appropriate, the proposal for an 18% increase was significantly higher than inflation and appeared to use the reduction of income from the departure of the social workers as its justification.

On review, the HCPC has written to the IBMS to inform us of their decision to reduce the fee increase for Biomedical Scientists and to maintain the discount for graduate applicants. Registration fees will now only increase by £8.12, originally proposed at £16. Graduate applicants will continue to receive a 50% discount for the first two professional years of registration. Following approval, the new rates are anticipated to apply from 1 September 2020.
