Important announcement from Health Education England to histopathology laboratories

In response to the medical pathologist shortages in histopathology in England and the success of the introduction of the Institute’s Advanced Specialist Diplomas in Histopathology dissection and reporting, which are offered in conjunction with the Royal College of Pathologists, HEE has announced that it will support the training costs for two individuals per NHSI recognised network to undertake one of the histopathology training programmes offered by the IBMS/RCPath.

This is very welcome recognition of the value of the Institute’s qualifications as a means for developing the scientist workforce. The details can be found in the letter from HEE accompanying this statement.

Please note, HEE will only support two applications per network. Trusts will need to agree which trusts/departments will bid for funding in advance of submitting applications.
