NHS 10 Year Health Plan Consultation

We urge our members to join us in playing a pivotal role in shaping the future of healthcare in the UK

The NHS is inviting the public, NHS staff, and health experts to join the biggest-ever conversation about its future through the online platform Change.NHS.uk, and also the NHS App. Whether you have a lot or a little to say, your input will help shape the new 10 Year Health Plan for England.

Those contributing on behalf of an organisation are encouraged to complete a questionnaire designed for institutions, providing early insights to help shape the plan. The IBMS is preparing a detailed response to ensure the voice of biomedical science is integral to the future of healthcare.

This is a key moment for our profession to influence strategic decisions that will impact the NHS workforce, technology, and patient outcomes over the next decade.

Members' Voices Matter

We encourage all our members to submit their own responses. Your unique insights and experiences are essential for representing the full spectrum of biomedical science within the healthcare system.

IBMS President Joanna Andrew commented:

“This consultation is a critical opportunity for us to showcase the breadth of expertise within the biomedical science community. I urge all of our members to contribute and ensure that their voices are heard. Together, we can help shape a future-ready NHS.”

Our Strengthened Position

Thanks to the collective efforts and recent work of the IBMS, including our policy papers and collaborative reports on key topics such as cancer testing, point-of-care diagnostics, and workforce planning, we are well-placed to deliver an authoritative response to the NHS 10 Year Health Plan consultation.

From our work on community diagnostics to addressing pressing challenges in pathology services, we have been at the forefront of advocating for improvements across the NHS.

IBMS Chief Executive David Wells commented:

“Through our recent reports and collaborations, we’ve established a strong foundation to respond effectively to this consultation. Our members’ commitment to excellence, combined with the IBMS’s thought leadership, allows us to champion the profession in driving impactful change.”

The IBMS will deliver a profession-wide response aligned with the best interests of all members and contribute to the wider healthcare transformation goals. We encourage members to engage in this pivotal process by sharing their expert perspectives and supporting our unified submission.
