Together for a Sustainable NHS
Supporting Net Zero Goals through Responsible Practices
As part of the healthcare community, we recognise the urgency of climate action and our shared responsibility to build a sustainable NHS. The NHS, contributing over 5% of the UK’s carbon footprint, has set an ambitious target to reach Net Zero by 2045.
In line with this commitment, we stand ready to support our members with the latest guidance, information, and best practices for sustainable operations.
Aligned with the NHS’s net zero vision, our members' priorities should include:
- Efficient Resource Use: Minimising single-use items and exploring biobased alternatives in operations.
- Supporting Circular Practices: Encouraging reuse, remanufacture, and recycling of medical products, in line with the NHS’s shift toward a circular economy as outlined in the Design for Life roadmap.
- Fostering Sustainable Partnerships: Working with suppliers who prioritise reduced emissions and sustainable products and practices.
We are committed to empowering our members by sharing best practices and showcasing successful initiatives across the NHS. Together, we support the drive towards Net Zero, enhancing the health of our communities and the environment.
