5th June 2024
Venue:

The University of Sunderland will showcase their latest innovations and developments in teaching students studying to become Biomedical Scientists. You will hear from the academic team as well as students and employers who have supported student workplace training, and now have graduates as part of their BMS workforce in NHS Pathology laboratories.

You will learn how key skills and competencies are taught to help grow graduates who are work place ready, with experience using modern equipment and software. See how the use of simulation and virtual reality has been embedded to the curriculum and complements existing teaching and assessment strategies. The University will demonstrate the use of simulated LIMS system which has been used to deliver training in patient sample data entry and result retrieval, alongside sample numbering and sorting.

They will also demonstrate how their students gain an insight to the whole patient journey, beyond the lab, working with patients and other healthcare professions as part of their training. You will see students following a sample from collection at the patient bedside, through to processing and investigation in a laboratory, to diagnosis and treatment.
