How to pay your IBMS Membership Fees
You can pay your IBMS membership fees by:
- Annual direct debit
- Monthly direct debit
- Credit or debit card payment
- Cheque or postal order
Please select the payment method of your choice when joining online.
Direct debit
To pay by direct debit you will need to complete the direct debit mandate section of your online application.
For Barclays and Metro Bank customers
If you bank with Barclays or Metro, you’ll need to post us the original direct debit mandate with a handwritten (wet) signature. These banks require the original form for verification, so we can’t accept scanned or emailed copies.
Joining from October
Applicants joining in the final quarter of the year are unable to pay for their membership via direct debit.
Credit or debit card
To pay by credit or debit card you can:
- fill in your card details on your application
- call the IBMS Membership Team to make a card payment over the phone on + 44 (0)20 7713 0214.
Please only send a cheque if no other option is available to you.
If you choose to pay by cheque or postal order please make your cheque or postal order payable to ‘Institute of Biomedical Science’ or ‘IBMS’. Cheques would be banked at the first available opportunity.
How to pay your IBMS Registration Fee
A registration fee is payable when you join us for the first time, or if you rejoin us after your membership has lapsed. Please include the £20 registration fee with your initial membership fee payment.
If you choose to pay by direct debit, the registration fees can be added.
Science Council Professional Registration Fees
Chartered Scientist (CSci)
To be a registered Chartered Scientist, Members will need to pay an additional £56.50 along with their annual IBMS membership fee.
All Fellows receive a 50% discount on their Chartered Scientist fee and will need to pay an additional £28.25 along with their annual IBMS membership fee.
Registered Scientist (RSci)
Registered Scientists will need to pay an additional £28.25 with their annual IBMS membership fee.
Registered Science Technician (RSci Tech)
Registered Science Technicians will need to pay an additional £24 with their annual IBMS membership fee.
If you join part way through the year
If you join part way through a membership year (Jan-Dec) you'll choose which quarter you would like your membership to begin from and pay the appropriate fees for that quarter, plus the £20 registration fee.

To rejoin in the same year that your membership lapses, the full year's membership fee will apply.
Members based overseas

The Biomedical Scientist magazine
If you are based overseas and would like to receive a paper copy of our membership magazine via airmail, you will need to pay an additional £94.06 with your IBMS membership fee.
