As the official journal of the IBMS, the British Journal of Biomedical Science is committed to publishing high quality original research that represents a clear advance in biomedical science and reviews that summarise recent advances in this field.

The overall aim of the Journal is to provide a platform for the dissemination of new and innovative research and technology on the diagnosis and management of disease that is of interest to the practicing laboratory scientist.

We welcome in vitro and in vivo experimental studies that explore the pathophysiological mechanisms underlying human disease, in addition to studies that translate these findings to clinical diagnosis and patient management.

BJBS achieves highest-ever Impact Factor

We are delighted to announce that the British Journal of Biomedical Science (BJBS), the official journal of the IBMS, has achieved its highest-ever Impact Factor of 11.9 in the 2026 Journal Citation Reports.

This significant milestone places the BJBS first in the Medical Laboratory Technology journal category. With a CiteScore of 12.7, this reflects the journal’s rising influence and the consistent quality of the research it publishes. The Impact Factor is a widely recognised metric that reflects the average number of citations to recent articles, serving as a key indicator of a journal's relevance and standing within its field.

We would like to thank all contributors, reviewers, and readers for their continued support, which has been crucial to reaching this milestone.
