British Journal of Biomedical Science achieves highest-ever Impact Factor
We are delighted to announce that the British Journal of Biomedical Science (BJBS), the official journal of the IBMS, has achieved its highest-ever Impact Factor of 11.9 in the 2026 Journal Citation Reports. Last year's Impact Score was 4.6, indicating a considerable improvement.
This significant milestone places the BJBS first in the Medical Laboratory Technology journal category. With a CiteScore of 12.7, this reflects the journal’s rising influence and the consistent quality of the research it publishes. The Impact Factor is a widely recognised metric that reflects the average number of citations to recent articles, serving as a key indicator of a journal's relevance and standing within its field.
The BJBS continues to publish high-quality, peer-reviewed research that directly supports biomedical scientists' work in diagnosing and managing illness. The journal’s editorial vision is focused on publishing research that not only advances scientific knowledge but also translates into meaningful benefits for clinical laboratory practice.
This achievement is a testament to the ongoing leadership and commitment of Editor-in-Chief Professor Anthony Rhodes, supported by the Deputy Editors and wider editorial board. Their dedication has been instrumental in upholding the journal’s high standards and expanding its reach within the biomedical science community.
Commenting on the news, IBMS President Dr Sarah Pitt said:
This outstanding achievement is a testament to the dedication, expertise and vision of everyone involved with the British Journal of Biomedical Science. Achieving an Impact Factor of 11.9 and securing the top position in the Medical Laboratory Technology category is a remarkable milestone that reflects the journal's growing international reputation and influence.
On behalf of the Institute of Biomedical Science, I would like to congratulate Professor Anthony Rhodes, the Deputy Editors, the editorial board, our authors, reviewers and readers, whose collective efforts have made this success possible.
The BJBS plays a vital role in advancing biomedical science and showcasing research that directly supports improvements in patient care and laboratory practice. We are immensely proud of what has been achieved and look forward to building on this success in the years ahead.
We would like to thank all contributors, reviewers, and readers for their continued support, which has been crucial to reaching this milestone.
