The Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS) is the professional body for biomedical scientists in the United Kingdom.
We represent, support and develop biomedical science professionals working across healthcare, research and laboratory services, promoting excellence in patient care, education and scientific practice.
As part of our commitment to patient engagement and public understanding of biomedical science, the IBMS delivers Harvey's Lab Tours in partnership with our members. This educational initiative is designed to help young patients and their families better understand what happens to their samples during the diagnostic process.
For many children and young people living with medical conditions, blood tests and other sample collections are a routine part of their care. Harvey's Lab Tours provides an accessible and engaging way for young patients to learn how laboratory samples are processed, how biomedical scientists contribute to diagnosis and treatment, and how laboratory testing supports their healthcare journey. By helping patients understand the science behind their care, the initiative aims to reduce anxiety, build confidence and improve engagement with treatment and monitoring programmes.
The IBMS is a registered charity (Charity No. 261926). We appreciate the generosity of donors and supporters to help advance our charitable objectives.
Donations support the charitable work of the IBMS which may include patient engagement, public education, outreach activities and initiatives such as Harvey's Lab Tours, which help promote understanding of biomedical science and its contribution to healthcare.
Your support helps us continue to deliver activities that educate and engage patients, families, healthcare professionals, and the wider public, while promoting excellence in biomedical science and patient care.
