Aims of the course

This course is aimed at those who are interested in taking the IBMS Diploma of Expert Practice in immunocytochemistry but will also be useful for those who simply wish to refresh their knowledge of immunocytochemistry with the intention of returning to practice or improving their understanding.

The format of day one is laid out around the IBMS portfolio for the DEP to help ensure that learning is directed appropriately. Day two allows participants to understand the exam format marking scheme and requirements. Both of the speakers on this course are IBMS examiners.

The two days can be taken separately.

Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the participants should:

Day One

  • Understand the pre-analytical variables which may affect the sample and subesequents results
  • Understand the various analytical stage processes which may affect the slides prodced and therefore results obtained.
  • Understand good practice in quality control.
  • Have an understanding of sample interpretation and how this affects the result
  • Understand the potential range of effects that the result may have on the patient and their lives.
  • Understands the growing role of indentification of infectious agents by employing immuncytochemistry

Day Two

  • Understand the examination process.
  • Have experienced the type of questions faced.

Cost: £125 per day or £210 for both days; (NHS BMS Participants attending from North West, East Midlands, West Midlands and North East, Yorkshire and Humber NHS regions will incur a £15 administration fee only).
