Cyril Saunders Memorial Award
Established in 1974 in memory of Cyril Sanders MBE, this award was originally a competition for IBMS members who were not eligible for statutory registration.
Following changes in regulatory bodies, the award lapsed but was revised in 2018 to focus on voluntary registration through the Science Council’s Registered Science Technician (RSciTech) category.
About the award
The award is granted annually for the best CPD review by an IBMS member who is an RSciTech registrant.
Each November, 20 RSciTech registrants are selected for CPD review and given three months to complete it. Those not selected can still be considered by submitting their CPD records for review.
Judging criteria
CPD records must:
- Clearly meet RSciTech CPD standards.
- Demonstrate CPD activities that go above the minimum requirements, showing impact on service and users.
CPD records meeting these criteria are submitted for the Science Council CPD Award and the Cyril Saunders Memorial Award. The winner is selected by IBMS Council, a CPD assessor, and the Professional Support Services Manager.
The prize
The winner receives:
- A certificate
- A £100 cash prize
The award is presented locally by the recipient’s IBMS Council Member.
