Enter The Pathologist Power List 2026

Entries are now open for The Pathologist Power List 2026, an annual celebration of inspirational individuals making a difference in pathology, laboratory medicine and patient care.

This year’s theme, Leading Voices, is focused on people who are shaping the future of the profession through leadership, innovation, advocacy, sustainability, education and service improvement.

The IBMS is encouraging members to consider entering - and to help ensure that the vital contribution of biomedical scientists is recognised publicly.

Across the UK and internationally, IBMS members are leading change in laboratories, improving quality and safety, introducing new technologies, supporting colleagues, advancing research, and helping services respond to growing pressures. The Power List is an opportunity to showcase that work more widely.

Whether you are an experienced leader, an early-career scientist, a researcher, an innovator, a mentor, or someone driving positive change in your laboratory, this is a chance to share your story and demonstrate the impact biomedical scientists have every day.

Entries are open across five categories:

Leaders – directors, mentors and inspirers

For those providing leadership within their specialty, supporting others, advocating for laboratory medicine, improving patient care, expanding services, or championing new technologies and ways of working.

Entrants are asked:

What is the biggest challenge facing your specialty right now, and how are you addressing it through leadership?

Next Generation – early-careerists and residents

For early-career professionals helping to shape the future of laboratory medicine through new ideas, collaboration, skills development, process improvement or the adoption of new technologies.

Entrants are asked:

What does the future of laboratory medicine look like, and how are you helping to future-proof your department?

Heroes – non-pathologist laboratory medicine professionals

For laboratory professionals who are making a meaningful difference in practice, including by improving services, developing guidance, sharing best practice, collaborating with colleagues or measuring the impact of their work.

Entrants are asked:

What is on your laboratory wish list, and how are you working towards making that a reality?

Challengers – drivers of environmental, social and governance initiatives

For those working to improve the way laboratories operate, including through sustainability, inclusion, social responsibility, collaboration, research, communication or measurable service change.

Entrants are asked:

What needs to change in the way we work, and what are you doing to drive that change?

Transformers – researchers, inventors and innovators

For those addressing gaps in technology, training or processes through innovation, scientific advancement, creative problem-solving, education, research or laboratory improvement.

Entrants are asked:

What gaps in technology, training or processes concern you most, and how are you addressing them through innovation?

Entries can be submitted either in writing, between 300 and 500 words, or by video, up to five minutes in length. Entrants should answer one category question only.

Submissions will be judged anonymously, with judges asked to assess the originality of ideas, evidence of impact and demonstrable solutions.

The deadline for entries is Wednesday 12 August.

IBMS members are encouraged to take this opportunity to celebrate their achievements, share their ideas and help raise the profile of biomedical science across the wider pathology and laboratory medicine community.
