IBMS members recognised at AHCS awards 2026
Several members of the Institute of Biomedical Science have been recognised by the Academy for Healthcare Science (AHCS) at its recent Honorary Fellowship and Chair’s Awards celebrations.
The event, held on 3 March 2026, brought together leaders from across the healthcare science community to celebrate individuals whose work has made a significant contribution to the profession, innovation and patient care.
Among those recognised was IBMS Fellow Andrew Usher, who received the AHCS Chair’s Award for Excellence. As a Lead Scientist and manager in cellular pathology at Gloucestershire Hospitals, Andrew has worked closely with the Academy since its early years and has played a key role in supporting its equivalence process.
The celebrations also included the awarding of AHCS Honorary Fellowships, one of the Academy’s highest honours, recognising exceptional leadership and long-standing contributions to healthcare science.
Among the new Honorary Fellows were Professor Berne Ferry, Stephen Merridew and John Stevens, all of whom are IBMS members. The fellowship recognises professionals who have demonstrated outstanding commitment to advancing healthcare science and improving patient outcomes throughout their careers.
The IBMS congratulates Andrew, John, Berne, and Stephen on their achievements and continued contributions to healthcare science and the biomedical science profession
