The Memcom Excellence Awards 2026 celebrate outstanding work across the membership, association, charity and not-for-profit sectors. This year saw a record number of entries, with finalists selected through a rigorous two-stage judging process.
The six categories the IBMS has been shortlisted for are:
- Best Website – recognising our new website and its user-first approach to helping members, students and the wider profession access information, resources and professional support.
- Best Non-Celebratory Event (£100K+) – for IBMS Congress 2025, which welcomed a record 4,037 attendees to four days of learning, knowledge sharing and innovation at the ICC Birmingham.
- Best Magazine – The Biomedical Scientist.
- Best Professional Body and Learned Society – recognising the work of the IBMS in supporting our members and advancing biomedical science.
- Team of the Year – IBMS Council, recognising the collective leadership and contribution of our Council.
- The CEO Leadership Award – David Wells, recognising his leadership as IBMS Chief Executive.
David Wells, IBMS Chief Executive, said:
To be shortlisted for six Memcom Excellence Awards is a fantastic recognition of the work taking place right across the IBMS. What makes these nominations particularly special is their breadth – from Congress, our magazine and new website to the work of Council and the Institute as a whole.
Everything we do is focused on supporting our members, strengthening the profession and ensuring biomedical science has the recognition and voice it deserves. I’m incredibly proud of everyone who has contributed to these achievements, as well as our partners who help us deliver such high-quality work.
Sarah Pitt, IBMS President, commented:
It is wonderful to see the IBMS recognised across so many different areas. The Team of the Year nomination for Council is particularly meaningful because it reflects the commitment of colleagues who give their time, knowledge and experience to help guide the Institute and represent our members.
These six nominations demonstrate what can be achieved when our members, staff, Council and partners work together with a shared ambition for the profession. Congratulations to everyone involved.
The nominations place the IBMS alongside professional bodies and membership organisations from across the UK, with the winners and highly commended entries set to be announced at the 2026 Memcom Excellence Awards ceremony taking place on 24 September.
