Mary Macdonald Bursary

In memory of former IBMS Council member Mary Macdonald to support biomedical science support staff 

The Mary Macdonald Bursary was established in memory of former IBMS Council member Mary Macdonald to support biomedical science support staff in undertaking the IBMS Certificate of Achievement Part I or II qualification.

What the bursary covers

  • Cost of the IBMS Certificate of Achievement Part I or II portfolio
  • IBMS Associate membership fees for one year

About Mary Macdonald

Mary Macdonald is remembered as an outstanding professional, colleague, and mentor. She began her career as a laboratory support worker and was passionate about encouraging and recognising excellence in others working in similar roles.

Mary made a significant contribution to the IBMS, serving as a Council member and contributing to various IBMS Committees.

How to apply

  • Both applicants and their Training Officer must submit supporting statements outlining how undertaking the Certificate of Achievement Part I or II will benefit their practice and their wider team.
  • Applications must be submitted between 1st and 18th January to be considered.
  • Multiple bursaries may be awarded in a given year.
  • A review panel will assess all applications, and successful candidates will be notified.

Important notes

  • The bursary cannot be applied retrospectively to cover the cost of a Certificate of Achievement that has already been ordered, paid for, or started.
