As genomics becomes increasingly integrated into routine healthcare, professionals across different disciplines are encountering genomic testing and results as part of patient diagnosis, treatment and care.

The new Genomic Capability Framework provides a practical way for healthcare professionals to understand how genomics relates to their role and identify the knowledge and skills relevant to their work.

It is accompanied by two additional resources:

  • Genomic Capability Self-Assessment Tool: allowing users to reflect on their current knowledge, confidence and experience and identify areas for further learning and development.
  • GWEN (Genomics wider Workforce Education Navigator):  an AI-powered learning mentor that provides tailored guidance and signposts users towards genomics learning and development resources relevant to their role.

Together, the resources aim to support healthcare professionals in developing their genomics knowledge and applying it within everyday practice, ultimately contributing to safer and more personalised care for patients and their families.

The three resources can be used independently or together and are available free through Y Tŷ Dysgu, the national e-learning platform for NHS Wales.

Find out more and explore the Genomic Capability Framework and GWEN on the HEIW Y Tŷ Dysgu platform.
