The IBMS EDI Group is seeking new members to fill current vacancies for representatives in the East Midlands, North West, North East, East Anglia, Northern Ireland and Wales.
We are seeking individuals who:
- demonstrate a strong interest or experience in EDI
- understand EDI challenges within the biomedical science profession
- represent diverse regions, demographics, career stages, and professional backgrounds
- are committed to IBMS EDI values and willing to actively contribute to the group’s activities.
As a member of the EDI Working Group, you will:
- play a key role in advancing EDI within the IBMS and the biomedical science profession
- collaborate with a diverse group of professionals to drive impactful initiatives
- gain valuable experience in leadership, strategy development, and advocacy
- contribute to creating a more inclusive and equitable environment for all IBMS members
- publish or contribute to at least one EDI-related article per year
- organise or participate in one local EDI event annually (online or in-person)
- attend meetings regularly and actively participate in discussions
- collaborate with local IBMS branches or regions on EDI initiatives
- support inclusive communication during meetings by ensuring a distraction-free environment.
These expectations form part of our Terms of Reference and help us maintain an effective and supportive working environment.

If you would like to help shape the next phase of our EDI work please submit an expression of interest, which should be up to 800 words and should include the following:
- Explain why you are interested in joining the EDI Working Group and how you align with IBMS’ EDI values.
- Highlight any relevant experience or involvement in EDI initiatives, particularly within the biomedical science profession.
- Share how your unique background, skills, and experiences can contribute to the group’s goals.
- Outline how you plan to fulfil the member commitments, including publishing articles, organising events, and attending meetings.
- Describe how your regional, demographic, or professional background adds to the diversity of the group.
Your expression of interest will be reviewed by a selection panel comprising:
- The EDI Working Group Chair (EDI Lead Council Member)
- A representative from the Membership and Marketing Committee
- An IBMS staff representative
