My Lab Guided Tours: Microbiology The Queen's Medical Centre, Nottingham

Specialist Biomedical Scientist Alexandra Merchant gives a guided tour of Clinical Microbiology at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust.

The laboratory is one of the region’s most dynamic and forward-thinking diagnostic services.

As a UKAS-accredited facility processing around one million diagnostic samples each year, the lab plays a central role in safeguarding public health across Nottinghamshire and beyond.

Its scale, capability and commitment to innovation have positioned it as a leading centre for bacteriology, serology and molecular diagnostics.

A round-the-clock service ensures that urgent diagnostics – particularly those critical to patient survival – are delivered without delay by a workforce that is predominantly young, passionate and trained through a dedicated IBMS training centre.
