James' Lab Tour at Royal Bolton Hospital

Royal Bolton Hospital recently hosted their second tour, taking James to the lab for a very special visit.

James had a liver transplant at a young age and regularly attends the hospital for check-ups. Naturally, he was curious to learn more about what happens to the samples taken during his visits.

Tours like this not only help young patients better understand their own care, but also give families reassurance by opening up what can often feel like an unfamiliar part of the hospital journey.

During James' tour, he followed the journey of samples through the hospital’s POD system, watched how they are analysed in the laboratory, and even carried out his own experiment.

Chris Hall, who supported the visit, said:

James was incredibly curious, bright, and full of great questions. A natural scientist in the making!

James’ visit left a strong impression on his family, and his mum shared:

Myself and James thoroughly enjoyed the lab tour this morning. James’ favourite part was making potions and sending pods in the pod system. Special thanks to Chris Hall, he was great with James, very patient and kind.

Families who are interested in taking part can speak to their hospital’s Play Specialists, who help coordinate visits with laboratory teams to ensure each experience is tailored to individual needs.

With another tour already planned for April, Royal Bolton Hospital continues to build on its support for helping young patients better understand their healthcare.
