An annual event to celebrate the vital role of biomedical scientists and healthcare laboratory staff
Biomedical Science Day raises public and professional awareness of the critical contribution biomedical science makes to diagnosing, treating and preventing disease through laboratory testing and research.
Each year, IBMS members across the UK get involved by organising laboratory tours, interactive demonstrations, educational activities, workplace celebrations and social media campaigns.
Since it began in 2017, Biomedical Science Day has grown into the largest awareness campaign for our profession, with hundreds of events taking place across the UK and millions of people reached online.
Biomedical Science Day 2027 – inspiring future biomedical scientists
Biomedical Science Day 2027 will take place on Thursday, 3 June.
As the date falls during the school holidays in many parts of the UK, this year we will be encouraging members to think about how they can use Biomedical Science Day to engage children, young people and families with biomedical science.
This could mean taking biomedical science beyond the laboratory into community spaces and other places where families can get involved, as well as engaging schools and young people in the weeks around Biomedical Science Day.
Get involved
Whether you organise a public event, open your laboratory to visitors, visit your local community, celebrate with colleagues or share your work online, every contribution helps raise awareness of biomedical science and the people behind the profession.
We’ll share more information, resources and ideas for Biomedical Science Day 2027 early next year, including ways to engage children, young people and families.
For now, save the date – Thursday 3 June 2027 and start thinking about how you and your team could get involved.
We can’t wait to see how you celebrate Biomedical Science Day 2027!
