IBMS library

The IBMS library is home to a unique collection of biomedical science books

Beginning with only a few donated books, the IBMS library now houses more than 1500 titles, with many rare first editions.

The library also contains complete bound sets of IBMS publications including:

  • The Journal
  • Bulletin
  • The Gazette
  • The Biomedical Scientist

together with IBMS Annual Reports dating from the formation of the Institute of Medical Laboratory Technology (IMLT) in 1942.

The IBMS library was established in 1962 when John Mercer was appointed as Honorary Librarian and served in this appointment for almost 50 years.

The IBMS Library was renamed the Mercer Collection in 2012 in honour of John Mercer.

Michael Wren FIBMS MBE has been appointed by IBMS Council as the new Honorary Librarian in 2015.
