1. Introduction to Practical HPLC Course – 2 Days - 2020 -

To understand what is meant by HPLC
To appreciate the history and theoretical background of HPLC
To know the requirements for HPLC sample preparation
To be able to make up a sample and mobile phase
To safely operate an isocratic HPLC system
To perform analysis following a HPLC method
To identify and state the function of each component of an HPLC instrument
To know if a chromatogram is integrated correctly

INTRODUCTION TO NGS: DNA

This 2 days course gives an overview of each step of a complete sequencing workflow: from considerations for experimental design; choice of sample preparation method and sequencer; to challenges of data analysis. A participant will have an opportunity to discuss their future projects with our experts and have a chance to set up a sequencing run.
The training will take place at one of Illumina Solution Centre.
Target audience: Biomedical scientists who have no or very limited experience with Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS), but who would like to gain an understanding of the technology.

1. Intermediate Practical HPLC Course – 2 Days - 2020

To understand which HPLC column to use and why; To be confident using both normal and reverse phase columns; To know when to use a pre- and guard column; To appreciate fluorescence and diode array detection methods; To be able to set up a gradient method; To determine the gradient dwell volume for a HPLC system; To analyse cations by ion chromatography; To understand different calibration methods and perform internal standard calibration

To be able to establish a starting point for Method Development; To know how to use a gradient run to decide whether to use isocratic or gradient elution; To be able to select the most appropriate mode of HPLC e.g. Reversed phase, Normal phase, Ion exchange e.t.c.; To know the parameters that need to be optimised, the order in which to optimise them and to recognise optimum conditions for each sample; To know when to use internal or external standards; To establish confidence in peak identification
