IBMS London Branch World Sickle Cell Day Seminar

THE EARLY CAREER SUMMER CONFERENCE IS A MEETING RAN ANNUALLY BY THE MICROBIOLOGY SOCIETY THAT AIMS TO PROVIDE A LAUNCH PAD FOR EARLY CAREER RESEARCHERS AND MICROBIOLOGISTS INTO THE WORLD OF SCIENTIFIC MEETING POSTER AND TALK PRESENTATIONS. THE CONFERENCE SESSIONS ARE DETERMINED BY THE EARLY CAREER FORUM WHICH TAKES INTO CONSIDERTION THE CAREER DEVELOPMENT CONCERNS AND NEEDS OF ITS MEMBERS TO CREATE A MEETING SPECIFIC TO THEM.

This day has been designed specifically for those working towards the scientist reporting qualification and approaching or contemplating undertaking their stage A examination.
The day has been developed by Karen Ezard, Laura Saberton, Vicki Martin who have experience in and have qualified through to stage D.

There are Gastro-intestinal, Gynaecology and Skin sessions which will run concurrently.

This is an exam preparation course. There will be advice and useful hints and tips from those that have taken the examinations along with an opportunity to discuss submitting a successful portfolio but it is not a morphology course. Participants will undertake a mock examination based around cases that might easily appear in the exam. Individual detailed feedback on performance will be provided to each candidate after the course either by e-mail or MS Teams, as per individual request.

The programme has been updated to make it also suitable for those studying for the limited scope reporting options.

A summer school designed for students considering a medical education. The program consists of interactive lectures and hands on workshops to help students develop clinical skills.

Looking at a range of normal tissues and discussing the histological changes observed during malignancy that provide the ability to identify the presence of tumours.

On completion of this webinar students will have a basic knowledge of Principles of immunofluorescence, Optimal specimen preparation for DIF, Practical aspects of cryotomy and processing, DIF imaging considerations, Interpretation of DIF, Diagnostic implications of DIF findings.

This webinar provides a basic introduction and training in the theory and practice of ICC. Delegates will acquire the knowledge to recognise and assess ICC stained sections used in diagnostic Cellular Pathology. Utilises presentations, hands on and discussion-based sessions.

This course is designed for those studying for their specialist portfolio in haematology, but is suitable
as a refresher for those returning to the subject or an update for those already qualified.
Day one deals with the proper use and care of the microscope, staining and stain QC/ trouble
shooting and normal haematopoiesis. This day will contain a workshop on normal morphology.
Day two will discuss the pre-analytical variables that can affect the sample and result, disease
process and the associated morphological abnormalities and the clinical significance of the
generated report for the patient, be it negative or abnormal.
These two days can be taken together or individually as suits the learners needs.

Explaining why tumours are not simply the proliferation of one type of “malignant cell” but a more complex matrix of tumour cell clones, also looking at what implications clonality has on tumour recurrence and metastatic spread.

This in-person master class provides an in-depth focus on the recognition and prevention of technical issues that occur in ICC, and guidance on ways to ensure ICC quality in diagnostic Cellular Pathology.
