Harvey's Lab Tour

On Tuesday, July 23rd, NHS Dumfries and Galloway had the pleasure of welcoming 8 year old Arran Hyslop to the labs with his mum Ashley and paediatric nurse Claire Henderson. Arran, who recently completed treatment for Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia, has always been curious about how his blood results are processed.

During the tour, Arran learned how samples are received and analysed, even getting hands-on with some fun experiments! He even had an opportunity to make “ninja turtle blood” with colour reactions, turning it green.

Arran also peeked through the microscope with the help of biomedical scientist Sue, spotting some neutrophils shaped emojis!

To end the tour, Arran sent "Dave," a duck from Harvey’s Lab Tours, on an adventure to the children’s ward using the pneumatic tube system. Dave returned with a special message, much to Arran’s delight.

Overall, this was a fantastic tour filled with smiles and laughter. The NHS Dumfries and Galloway team were honoured to welcome Arran into the Harvey’s Lab Tours family.
