Zachary and Murphy’s Tour
On October 3rd, NHS Dumfries and Galloway had the pleasure of welcoming two curious young boys, Zachary (10) and Murphy (7), along with their mum, Aimee, to the lab for an engaging Harvey’s Lab Tour. Zachary, who has coeliac disease like his big brother Elijah (12), was especially keen to see where his blood samples go and learn all about the testing process. Though Elijah couldn’t make it, he was there in spirit as Zachary and Murphy jumped into the lab with excitement.
Armed with their “I Spy” checklists, Zac and Murphy were on a mission to spot all kinds of lab items — and they were naturals. The boys were thrilled to peer through microscopes, where the lab team had even hidden some fun emojis in the blood films. Zac and Murphy loved seeing the large analysers in action with their robotic arms, and they even tried their hand at adjusting pipettes to practise measuring water like real scientists.
One of the highlights was making “crocodile” and “alien” blood with some cool colour-changing reactions.
Gayle Johnstone shared,
‘Zac and Murphy were absolute stars! They asked so many interesting questions and loved learning where their blood goes and why these tests are so important. We in the lab were thrilled to have them here for a Harvey’s Lab Tour.’
A huge thanks to Zac, Murphy, and Aimee for joining the team at NHS Dumfries and Galloway.
