IBMS member wins Science Council Award
7 October 2016
IBMS Fellow Amardeep Ghattaoraya, CSci, FIBMS is one of three award winners for the Science Council’s CPD Award

Each year the Science Council awards registrants who demonstrate excellence in their CPD returns. To recognise their achievements and promote the range of their professional activities, the Science Council receives nominations from UK professional bodies and assesses the candidates via a judging panel (comprised of expert members of the Science Council’s CPD Learning Group).

The CPD Monitoring Forum is an annual event that allows the licensed bodies to meet, engage and discuss the latest issues and challenges facing CPD organisers and their users. This year’s theme was ‘reflection’, and it was at this event that the CPD finalists were awarded.

The 2016 CPD Award winners are: CSci: Amardeep Ghattaoraya (Institute of Biomedical Science), RSci: Jemma Walker (Institute of Science and Technology) and RSciTech: Paul Baker (Institute of Science and Technology).

Regarding Amardeep’s entry, Daisy Mortimer, relationship manager of the Science Council, commented: “Amardeep’s CPD return was unanimously felt by our panel to be absolutely exemplary. Not only the range of activities that she undertook but also the reflection she provided; just a really outstanding CPD return!”

Amardeep began a biomedical science course at De Montfort University and pursued a career in blood transfusion. She is now a senior biomedical scientist in the blood transfusion department at the University Hospital’s of Leicester NHS Trust. When questioned about her role she explained, “It’s a case of you actually helping somebody. You’ve got real patients, you know you’ve been part of that wider team.”

The IBMS congratulates all the CPD award winners this year. More information about this event and the award winners can be found here.
