See information below on an amended guidance for handling medicolegal samples and preserving the chain of evidence

The Institute of Biomedical Scientists and the Royal College of Pathologists have released a new guidance, relating to preserving the chain of evidence in medicolegal cases using pathology samples.

This guidance is intended to be used by College members and healthcare scientists from all disciplines of pathology, within the United Kingdom.

It is specifically for clinical laboratories and should not conflict with Prosecutor Fiscal, Coronial or other forensic rules or requirements.

This guidance replaces an earlier one from 2008 and is available at the Royal College of Pathologists’ website. It was amended following 28 items of received feedback.

Should you wish to see the comments and responses, contact Dr Lorna Williamson.
