UK and Scottish Governments Approve HCPC Fee Change
The Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) has announced that its proposed registration fee change has now received formal approval from both the UK and Scottish Parliaments
The Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) has announced that its proposed registration fee change has received formal approval from the UK and Scottish Parliaments.
Effective 29 April 2025, the annual registration fee will rise by £6.98, bringing the total fee to £123.34. This change follows a public consultation held between April and June 2024, in which the HCPC stated the adjustment represents the minimum required to support their programme of essential investments over the next three years. These investments aim to enable the HCPC to meet increased demand and fulfil its statutory responsibilities, including responding to a 26% rise in Fitness to Practise referrals. The HCPC advises that existing registrants will move to the new rate at their next renewal, and most won't pay the new fee until 2026.
In addition, the HCPC has announced a change to how fees are collected. Based on feedback from registrants and professional organisations, the number of direct debit collections will increase from two to four per year, allowing registrants to spread the cost more evenly throughout the year. This will take effect from each registrant’s next renewal period.
The Institute of Biomedical Science recognises the approval of the HCPC fee change. Throughout the consultation process, we advocated for a transparent and proportionate approach - reflecting the financial pressures faced by biomedical scientists. We remain committed to engaging with the regulator on future decisions that affect the profession.
