This focus webinar is designed to introduce new personnel and students or qualified scientific staff who wish to learn about the importance of ‘quality’ in their day-to-day work.

This one-hour focused webinar will include the following subject matter that covers both staining techniques:
- Brief discussion of the types of tissue elements demonstrated and their clinical significance
- An outline of the staining chemistry principles
- An outline of the UK NEQAS CPT expected optimal staining criteria
- Discussion of how failures in the protocol steps affect optimal staining performance
- Presentation of data derived from UK NEQAS CPT assessments
- Discussion of how to avoid or troubleshoot the most common staining problems
An outline of possible quality measures suitable for monitoring performance

This webinar introduces the selection and use of appropriate fixatives for sample preparation, the rationale of tissue selection, processing and embedding procedures and theory, including performing decalcification, and the use of a microtome for tissue section preparation. Utilises presentations, and discussion-based sessions.

In the first part of this webinar we will explore the structure, function, and cells of the marrow, and discuss the clinical importance of the bone marrow trephine biopsy. This webinar provides a focus on the more advanced ICC/ISH applications currently being utilised in diagnostic Cellular Pathology. Delegates will acquire the knowledge on the use of routine diagnostic ICC and drug aligned companion diagnostic assays used Utilises presentations, and discussion-based sessions.

A simple exploration of tips and practices that may not be commonly taught in modern training but may help provide an insight into the mechanics of sectioning and help resolve some difficulties encountered when sectioning.

The course comprises 5 modules in an on demand, self-led learning format. The on demand learning will be supplemented a one-week programme of live online sessions consisting of online workshops and IPC clinics (Q&A/discussion sessions) with the presenting experts. This will take place over five afternoons in a designated week for each cohort*.

Modules covered:
Basics in IPC - including, isolation, hand hygiene, device-associated infections, respiratory viruses, HCID

Pathogen-based approach to IPC - including epidemiology of common pathogens and the use of typing in outbreak investigation

IPC in the built environment - including ventilation, water management, disinfection and sterilisation

Principles of surveillance and stewardship - including essential tools, surveillance of AMR and stewardship, surveillance applied to HCAI, using data for local action.

Leadership and managing change - including behavioural science, structure of IPC services, communication, sustainability

A look at how patients are now able to have their tumour tissue profiled by molecular analysis and identify the gene expression profile unique to their cancer.

Explaining why tumours are not simply the proliferation of one type of “malignant cell” but a more complex matrix of tumour cell clones, also looking at what implications clonality has on tumour recurrence and metastatic spread.
