UK SMI reissued: investigation of alternative specimens for parasites
8 March 2017
Public Health England has rereleased an SMI on identifying parasites in non-blood specimens

Under Public Health England, the UK Standards for Microbiology Investigations (UK SMIs) have reissued a guidance relating to finding parasites in samples other than blood.

The SMI outlines the detection of organisms and parasites from a variety of non-blood clinical specimens, including bile, pus from abscesses, faeces, urine, and more.

This new SMI includes more references, diagrams and updated sections on safety considerations and technical limitations.

Should you have any questions contact the Standards Unit.
