Introduction to Cellular Component, Tissue Morphology and Tissue Recognition Webinar

18/04/2024
This webinar and associated microscope workshop, introduces the four basic tissue types: epithelial tissue, connective tissue, muscle tissue, and nervous tissue, and provides basic knowledge and competence in the microscopic recognition of normal histological tissue and some key aspects of pathological tissue. Utilises presentations, hands on and discussion-based sessions.

Rapid On-Site Evaluation of Respiratory Cytology

22/04/2024
ROSE is an expanding field particularly in head and neck, EBUS and EUS. The benefits of ROSE are well documented and multiple guidelines for best practice promote ROSE. Appropriate planning of services and training of staff is essential for any service to run safely and effectively. This course will aim to help staff providing the service to understand its many. These training days are suitable for those preparing for the IBMS ROSE qualification but are equally suited to those who just want to learn more about the service they are helping to provide. The course covers core medical, technical, and morphological aspects of head and neck, EBUS and EUS ROSE.
We have organised these days so that participants can attend the whole course or just selected days.

Course Aims.
At the end of the course the participants should:
• Understand the sample collection and preparation methods for these samples.
• Understand pre and post analytical variables. • Assess adequacy.
• Be able to recognise basic cell types.
• Be able to distinguish between clearly benign cells and those requiring further assessment.
• Understand the ancillary techniques that can be used in each case.
• Understand the equipment requirements.
• Understand the health & safety and information governance requirements.

ROSE Service Focussed Webinar

07/05/2024
This webinar will discuss how a ROSE service can be set up to be of value to reporting Pathologists, Clinicians and, most importantly, the patient.

Cell Block Preparation Focussed Webinar

07/05/2024
This webinar will cover the most commonly used methods available for preparation of cell blocks from cytology samples.

Mohs’ Procedure - Introductory Webinar 2024

13/05/2024
During this session we will look more closely at the benefits of Mohs micrographic surgery to include improved preservation of uninvolved skin, better cosmetic outcomes and how it can be used on problematic infiltrative invasive tumour types. In addition we will consider the technical requirements in detail along with an understanding of the artefacts that can be created during the procedures and how they can also be resolved. Emphasis will be given to developing a comprehensive understanding of the skills required for the laboratory scientist to deliver good quality stained tissue sections

Introduction to the Theory & Practice of Histological Staining Webinar

15/05/2024
This webinar provides a basic introduction and training in the theory and practice of tinctorial staining techniques used in diagnostic Cellular Pathology laboratories, including Haematoxylin and Eosin stained sections together with the special staining techniques. Utilises presentations, hands on and discussion-based sessions

Troubleshooting Gram / ZN Staining Focussed Webinar

28/05/2024
This one-hour focused webinar will include the following subject matter that covers both staining techniques:
- Brief discussion of the types of tissue elements demonstrated and their clinical significance
- An outline of the staining chemistry principles
- An outline of the UK NEQAS CPT expected optimal staining criteria
- Discussion of how failures in the protocol steps affect optimal staining performance
- Presentation of data derived from UK NEQAS CPT assessments
- Discussion of how to avoid or troubleshoot the most common staining problems
- An outline of possible quality measures suitable for monitoring performance

Non-Conformity, Root Cause Analysis & CAPA Webinar

30/05/2024
This focussed webinar follows on from the subject of auditing, to define and discuss non-compliance, the different types of non-conformity, how to identify ‘why’ something went wrong, the corrective actions which may be used to prevent recurrence of the problem and also basic risk management to identify preventive measures before something goes wrong.

Renal Webinar 2024

03/06/2024
Discussing the clinical importance of renal biopsies, and the associated laboratory techniques and challenges.

AEROSOLS AND MICROBIOLOGY: CONNECTING DISCIPLINES IN THE POST PANDEMIC ERA 2024

04/06/2024
THE MICROBIAL AEROSOLS SYMPOSIUM WILL BE FOCUSED ON PROMOTING AEROBIOLOGICAL STANDARDS, PROVIDING BACKGROUND KNOWLEDGE ON THE MICRO-ORGANISMS TO NEW RESEARCHERS IN THE FIELD BUT, MORE IMPORTANTLY, ON THE PHYSICAL AND CHEMICAL ASPECTS OF THE AEROSOL AS AN ENVIRONMENT. NOVEL TECHNIQUES WILL BE PRIORITISED TO SUPPORT EXPANSION OF EXPERIMENTAL AND MODELLING TOOLS.
