The British Society for Immunology Congress is the BSI’s flagship event. The congress enables the exchange of ideas and knowledge to facilitate research and collaborations focusing on immunology

It is our pleasure to invite you to our inaugural symposium taking place on Thursday 6 July 2023. The symposium will cover the evolving landscape of laboratory medicine in the continuum of change in healthcare. Our key note speaker is Professor Mike Osborn, President of the Royal College of Pathologists. Our full line up will be available shortly.

THIS MEETING WILL PROVIDE SCIENTIFIC INSIGHTS INTO THE FUTURE IMPACT OF ANAEROBIC BACTERIA ON HUMAN HEALTH AND DISEASE, FOSTER INTERACTIONS AMONGST BIOMEDICAL SCIENTISTS, CLINICIANS AND BASIC SCIENTISTS AND ENCOURAGE ENGAGEMENT OF EARLY CAREER MICROBIOLOGISTS WITH ESTABLISHED FACULTY IN INFORMAL SETTINGS AND THROUGH OFFERED ORAL, FLASH POSTER AND POSTER PRESENTATIONS.

The event is a free (to NHS staff) educational and networking day, aimed primarily at laboratory and clinical staff that manage or work with Point of Care devices. There will be a number of presentations and interactive discussion sessions looking at Point of Care innovations, developments for the future and ways to standardise common processes.

‘A different way to die from explosives’

Dinitrophenol is an industrial chemical used in production industrial chemicals including explosives. It has been used as a dietary aid for some years and has become popular with body builders. It has been linked to fatalities and the sale of the chemical is due to be restricted in the UK later this year. The talk will also include the mechanism by which dinitrophenol acts on the body.

This course is designed for those studying for their specialist portfolio in haematology, but is suitable as a refresher for those returning to the subject or an update for those already qualified.

Day one deals with the proper use and care of the microscope, staining and stain QC/ trouble shooting and normal haematopoiesis. This day will contain a workshop on normal morphology.

Day two will discuss the pre-analytical variables that can affect the sample and result, disease process and the associated morphological abnormalities and the clinical significance of the generated report for the patient, be it negative or abnormal.

These two days can be taken together or individually as suits the learners needs.

This BAC seminar and workshop offers a unique opportunity for professionals within the cervical screening programme to engage with their peers to discuss and learn more about the invasive audit process.

Aimed at all cytologists who undertake cytology slide reviews for cancer audits, CSPLs and clinicians involved in disclosing audit results.
