Biomedical scientists win Advancing Healthcare Award

IBMS members win at the AHA Northern Ireland 2017 awards

Biomedical scientists were amongst the award winners at this year’s Advancing Healthcare Awards (AHA) for Northern Ireland.

Organised by Chamberlain Dunn, the conference theme for this year was: Delivery Together. IBMS Fellow Ian Clarke, Elaine Donald-Magill, Yvonne Cole and Valerie Hinch from the NHSCT in Antrim, won the Department of Health Northern Ireland award for Transforming the Workforce, for their advanced dissection of cancer specimens by biomedical scientists. Pictured above is Yvonne, Ian, Dr Tony Stevens, Chief Executive of the NHSCT, alongside Elaine and Valerie*.

These four biomedical scientists undertook additional training to dissect cancer specimens. The award guide explains how this training was cost-effective, had no detriment to the patient, and improved the quality, safety and result whilst reducing turnaround time.

Ian commented, “Winning the award gave us the opportunity to showcase how biomedical scientists in cellular and molecular pathology are transforming their roles within the clinical setting and contributing to the overall patient outcome.”

For more information about the awards, see the AHA Northern Ireland website. The IBMS congratulates the winners on this great achievement.
