IBMS Fellow wins Leader of the Year award

Last week, Great Ormond Street Hospital held its annual staff awards. Among the awards was the prestigious Leader of the Year award, won by IBMS Fellow Adeboye Ifederu.

The Leader of the year 2017 Annual GOSH Staff Award is in recognition of an exceptional leader who models the ‘Trust Always Values’.

Adeboye faced competition from twenty-four other nominees for this award. His nominations include the following:

“Ade is the manager/Lead Healthcare scientist for the Newborn Screening Laboratory, Chemical Pathology, Laboratory Medicine. The laboratory processes the highest number of Newborn screening tests in the country and the service has been acknowledged within the national screening programme as providing a high-quality service with a forward-thinking, progressive approach in contributing to better outcomes for babies born with inherited conditions.

This is most part attributed to the leadership of Ade. As his line manager I have always appreciated his dedication, hard work and enthusiasm in carrying out his role but upon reviewing 360 PDR feedback recently from his peers, team members and users of the service I was taken aback by the positive comments which I feel should be acknowledged.”

“As a manager, I think it will be hard to find anyone as well rounded as him with regards to professionalism, dedication and ability/desire to motivate us as staff members. All of this alongside his ability to keep the work environment fun and friendly makes him an ideal candidate for leader of the year.”

Ade commented,

“I am delighted to receive the award and incredibly humbled by the kind words expressed in the nominations – The staff in GOSH Newborn Screening Laboratory are the people that really make the difference both in their enormous contribution to a highly rated service and the impact this has on patients’ lives. I am so privileged to work with this great team. The award also represents a well-deserved recognition for healthcare scientists within our organisation.”
